Technique Tuesday: Cut Away

What is your favorite scrappy tool?  Do you have to have a fancy cutting machine or do you love your binder?  My go-to tool is a pair of scissors.  Easy, old-fashioned...yet so impactful.  I love to hand cut many of the elements found on my pages.  My favorite scissors are the Tim Holtz Tonic ones...they are somewhat big, but so easy to manipulate and use.  I can't live without them.

Take this layout below.  I used Bella Blvd goodies to create this one.  Let me tell you that Bella scraps itself...there are so many elements like stickers, chipboard and journaling spots.  Just layer it all on the page and you are set.  Except I want something a bit special...that is where the scissors come into play.  Those large snowflakes were hand cut from a sheet of paper in the Winter Wonder collection.

I chose to cut them in different formations...some I stayed close to the lines.  For the large pink one, I wanted to make it a bit more rounded.  I made some stand out with different sized brads.

To add a bit of texture, I used some twine around the titleblock.  I wanted it to start the eye on that side of the layout.  Most elements from this page are from the Winter Wonder collection.  The alphabet is from the Sophisicates collection.

If I got the what-would-you-bring-to-a-deserted-island question and there was going to be a crop there...I would have to have my scissors.  Hands down....best invention!

  11. I'd have to agree with you Stacey. You can do a ton with a photo, several sheets of paper and some scissors.
