Tuesday Trending: White Backgrounds

Happy Tuesday!  I have been scrapping a ton in preparation for CHA and I find myself so attracted to white backgrounds.  I can't help it...I need a quiet place to start.

I used an all white background for my most recent Lily Bee layout.

Since I used a black and white photo along with a white background, I wanted to add some color.  I loved the boy/girl card and put it right right to my picture.  That didn't help much with color so I went to the top of the page.  I added that beautiful navy paper.  I then started to add hanging strips of paper.  I cut this from one of the We R Family sheets of paper.  I just made them all different sizes.

I always lay out a design like this one before I glue.  I really like the effect and all the color it adds.

I went back to my stash to put in some details....see the rub-ons and chipboard!

Have you seen the reveal of the new Everyday collection from Lily Bee?  Kristen shared it this week and it looks just awesome!

I think white backgrounds are a mainstay for me!  Now I just have to remember to go bold sometimes too!

Tuesday Trending: Adding Words

Fonts, signs, phrases, quotes...all forms of words and typography that I have always loved.  In the world of scrapbooking, there are endless words on sticker sheets or on die-cuts.  One of my favorite things to do is to add these types of words to different places around a page.

I will scour the materials I have to find the just-right word or phrase.  Whatever goes on a layout has to match the theme.  Because I am theme-y like that.

Example on hand:

I used the Noted Favorites speech bubbles to convey my title  I then added in circle stickers and small sentiments.  It almost serves as a form of journaling.

I went with a unique color combination here, but I think the salmon and brown work together.  I love the vintage feel of the chicken wire paper and how it coordinated with the vintage bicycle in the photo.  I mixed some of my favorite Lily Bee collections for this page.

Building long titles with words makes my happy.  Although I am not sure if Noted Favorites Love This Joyful Happy Notes actually makes sense?

But who is keeping track, anyway!

Tuesday Trend: Be Uneven

There are times when uneven is bad...
think hair cuts

or art hanging on the walls.  An uneven hem line is never a good thing.  My husband had uneven length legs and that only caused hip problems.

but in scrapbooking, uneven seems to be the thing.  It seems to be about random, mismatched, free and funky.

Uneven is hard for me.  But, I am always open for change.  I decided to add some uneven to my latest layout.

Now, not everything is uneven.  I can't live without straight lines!  The triangles may be placed randomly, but those linear edges make it okay.  The uneven on this layout comes in the form of rip lines along the bottom of my photo.  The way my pictures tilt.  Even the way the elements stick out at uneven lengths alond the side of the photo.  I get that it adds movement and interest.

I used the Persnickety collection from Lily Bee for this layout.  Love this collection!  I admit that the layout looked almost too structured without this torn edge.  It filled in the space nicely and broke up the title.

I do like how the You sticker juts out a bit.  Uneven can work for me.  As long as it doesn't involve pant legs or curtains....
